What it's like
West Hove is an 18-hole, par 70 chalk downland course in Hangleton, in the South Downs National Park just off the A27, established in 1910. The white tees play 6,253 yards at course rating 69.9 and slope 117. The club says the 18th is the longest hole in Sussex and that you get sea views from the 6th.
It also runs the Brighton and Hove area's only public driving range: 20 bays, 8 covered and 12 outdoor, with Trackman. There are no bookings and it's walk-in only.

The prices in plain words

Green fees are dynamic. On the online tee sheet we saw £45 for Saturday 31 October 2026 and, for Monday 2 November 2026, £46 in the 09:08-10:52 morning band falling to £33 from 14:04. That's about £1.83 to £2.56 a hole, so often cheaper than East Brighton (£50 midweek) but not a published rate. Juniors (9 to 17) pay £25, and the County Card is £35 on weekdays. Buggy £32.

Who it's for
Range users, first, because nothing else in the city does what this does (the next nearest ranges are in the nearby ring, such as Burgess Hill Golf Centre). Then golfers who like a chalk course in winter: Chris M (Golfshake, November 2023) called it "A winter must-play".
Skip the range if you want to reserve a bay. Skip the course if you need a fixed rate before you arrive, because the visitor green fee is variable and shown online.
First time here
- Visitors can play Monday to Friday from 9am and at weekends from 2pm. Book online three days ahead or call the pro shop.
- Range balls are sold 8am to 8pm in summer and 8am to 6.30pm in winter.
