East Brighton Golf Club

A James Braid par 72 above the Marina that golfers say drains well and has fast, true greens. £50 midweek, £60 at weekends, and slow rounds are the one regular complaint.

What it's like

East Brighton is an 18-hole, par 72 course on Roedean Road, just above Brighton Marina and looking over the sea. It was founded in 1893 and laid out by James Braid. From the white tees it plays 6,346 yards at course rating 71.8 and slope 133. The club describes it as downland on chalk, playable year round, with temporary greens rarely used.

There's a halfway house for hot and cold drinks and snacks, a large putting green, and a bookable indoor swing studio.

Best for

  • Winter golf, since reviewers say it drains well and stays open
  • Sea views over Brighton and the coast
  • A mid-priced round between Hollingbury and Dyke

Skip if

  • You want to avoid slow rounds at busy weekends
  • You want the cheapest round in the city (Hollingbury is £28 midweek)

The prices in plain words
  • Standard green fee: £50 midweek (about £2.78 a hole), £60 weekend (about £3.33 a hole)

That puts East Brighton £8 above Brighton & Hove Golf Club's £42 midweek and £20 below Dyke's £70. Hollingbury is £28.

The studio and lesson prices differ between the club page, the booking page and a coach's own site, so we don't quote them here. Check before you book.

Online off-peak deals can be cheaper than the club's own rates. Resold tee times on marketplaces such as GolfNow are not the club's rate and are never shown here.

What golfers say

21 quotes read, collected 31 Oct 2026

The short version

Drainage is the clearest theme. Marek L (Golfshake, January 2026): "this course drains so well and is always open." The views get praise ("amazing views over the coast and downs", Jon S, August 2025), and so do the greens, though one 2023 reviewer found them "a touch fast". Wind matters: "Wind a big factor", Marek L, October 2025.

Pace of play is the complaint. Five reviewers between 2020 and 2024 report slow rounds, one calling it "very very slow" and others getting stuck behind a society or a group of "5 students". Food is mixed: "the breakfast was worth it" but also "no kitchen open".
